The software dedicated to sows’ body condition management
The main goal of sows’ body condition measurements is to adapt feed intake during gestation to reach the ideal body condition at farrowing. During lactation, the body condition reserve must be sufficient to cover a nutritional deficit without impairing the sow’s health and without any consequences on the growth of the litter. Excessive body condition during this time can lead to other problems, such as parturition problems or a low appetite during lactation.
What is Sow Perform?
SowPerform is a software designed by ADM for feed technicians for farmers’ follow-up. The main objectives of SowPerform are to capture, store, valorize, and share sow body condition measurements, which are collected on farms, using an ultrasound. Data is then valorized via technical reports, which help the farmer and the technician make good decisions about their nutritional strategy.
The SowPerform program takes only a few steps and little time to complete.
Steps to success:
- Sow measurements are collected by the technician and/or the breeder using echograph devices
- Data measurements are transferred to the SowPerform program
- All farm data are compared with our genetic reference library
- Valorization is done with simple indicators and clear graphics for one or several groups of animals, on a one-time basis or dynamic analysis.
Back fat thickness indicator:
Legend:
- Arrow: average backfat thickness
- Red: too fat or too lean
- Yellow: fat or lean
- Green: ideal
Dynamic representation of back fat thickness:
Legend:
- Ideal body condition: between the 2 green lines
- Fat or lean body condition: between the green line and the red line
- Too fat and too lean body condition: above and beyond the red line.
- Blue points: Back Fat (BF) average of the group
Benefits of SowPerform
The data collected via this software helps with the interpretation of body conditions by using simple indicators that are easy to evaluate and understand. This process saves time in decision-making, especially for grouping sows at weaning, and allows data to be quickly shared between the farmer and the technician through a cloud platform. In addition, SowPerform facilitates data management, gives a body condition overview of the herd for better grouping, and allows feed programs to be more fully optimized. SowPerform also improves farmers’ autonomy in data collection and interpretation.
SowPerform allows easy access to data, no matter where you are, as cloud-based data is available online or offline. SowPerform is currently available in English, French, and Spanish, and is easy to access simply by making a request to your local ADM contact. All data is confidential and belongs to the breeder. If desired, comparison reports with a group of anonymous farmers can be done.
