ADM has developed a global expertise in the mycotoxin contamination management, a complex and always moving issue for animal production.

Mycotoxin contamination

A global rise of contamination levels in a multi-contamination context is observed, and new mycotoxins, including masked mycotoxins, are emerging.

Mycotoxin contamination can occur in the field with molds such as the Fusarium species, producing mycotoxins such as fumonisin, trichotecen and zearalenon on the crops. Contamination can also happen in storage with fungi, such as Aspergillus and Penicillium. Those fungi are linked to ochratoxin and aflatoxin contamination.

In this context, it is more and more challenging to use a simple binding solution, as it is not sufficient. Thus, ADM teams deliver tailor-made solutions to their customers to implement a complete approach of mycotoxin management risk thanks to a full package of services. A tailor-made solution combining quality control plan support, analysis, technical advice, high-end technical products range T5X and MycoControl mobile app.

ADM provides solutions for monitoring mycotoxin risk

In mycotoxin risk management, prevention is the key point for success. Indeed, it is critical for feed producers to know the contamination levels of their raw materials to be able to have a preventive approach. For that, ADM helps customers to build their mycotoxins control plan and offers analysis solutions depending on their situations and objectives. Depending on the customers and their problematics, we are offering HPLC but also rapid analysis.

Mycotoxins analysis and contamination levels

Raw materials analysis is the starting point of mycotoxin contamination knowledge in each particular situation. Corn, barley, wheat, and oats are important substrates, but they are not the only raw materials that need to be analyzed. For ruminants, forages are the main source of contamination, which also need to be analyzed.

Mycotoxin contamination can be suspected by molds presence, or fermented grains. But in most cases, contamination cannot be suspected and detected by visual inspection, even at high levels. Sometimes, there is no particular alteration of the external aspect, no smell, no taste, no insects. No physical sign of contamination does not mean no contamination at all. Even good-looking raw materials can have a higher contamination level than bad-looking ones. To conclude only analysis can confirm the presence of mycotoxins.

Mycotoxins risk management depending on the species

Having analysis results is the first step of the preventive approach, and to go further ADM developed MycoControl app. The monitoring tool allows to valorise mycotoxins analysis results in order to evaluate the contamination risk from low to critical. Specific threshold, based on R&D and literature, were defined by species but also by physiological stage. Indeed, not all mycotoxins are equal, neither their impact on animals. Different species, different ages and most importantly different stages of production have different levels of tolerance on different mycotoxins.

MycoControl app, do the right investment at the right time

ADM offer is combining high-end products, services, and an innovative tool: MycoControl app.

Based on the species (physiological stage or subspecies) selected and the analysis results, the MycoControl app recommends the most suitable T5X product to use. The app also informed you about the precise T5X product dose to use. This very specific and customized recommendation allows you to precisely manage your mycotoxin risk.

This new generation of mobile application was developed thanks to our 20 years of Research and Development and field experience. Thanks to specific equations, the MycoControl app takes into account the following parameters: species and sub-species sensitivities to mycotoxins, the raw materials inclusion rate in the formula, and the possible multi-contaminations simultaneously.

The mobile app is mainly dedicated to nutritionists and feed producers formulators. It can be used regularly, and in addition, a full report of each simulation can be sent by email for archives. Finally, to make the right investment at the right time, ADM experts deliver tailored advice and support.

Mycowatch® app is available on the Google Play Store and Apple Store for free. Download it now!
